September 11th, 2001 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

September 11th, 2001 - Essay Example The events of September11th were a series of suicide arracks committed by Muslim fundamentalists. The attackers hijacked four airplanes and directed two of them into the Twins Tours in New York. The third plan was directed into the Pentagon and the forth one was crashed in Pennsylvania. In spite of different conspiracy theories, the undeniable fact is that Al-Qaida and bin Laden officially confirmed their involvement in these attacks (Chomsky 54). Bin Laden states: "we calculated in advance the number of casualties who would be killed" (The Top September 11 Conspiracy Theories 2006). On September 11, TV viewers watched the United Airlines Boeing 767 approach the South Tower of the World Trade Center and ram into it at 9:03 am. Cameras had been set up around the site following the crash of an American Airlines plane into the North Tower some 15 minutes earlier. The main claims promulgated by al-Qaeda against the USA also included: unauthorized use of the Arabian national resources; un lawful intrusion into political affairs of those countries, support of the abusive regimes; military bases in Arabian countries, etc. Before the attacks, the USA stood in opposition to Arabic countries providing aggressive international politics, and these attacks became a response to its international politics and aggressive actions towards global terrorism. In these attacked, 2,974 people were killed. "The completely unexpected action of an airliner being deliberately flown into one of the world's tallest and most symbolic buildings, followed by the massive loss of life, shook journalists' and viewers' cognitive foundations of reality" ("One Nation: America Remembers September 11" 2001). September 11 has decisively transformed the everyday contexts within which many journalists routinely operate. From the perspective of today, of course, it is easier to discern the emergence and embodiment of the responses they crafted and the interests they sought to advance. Far less clear, howe ver, is what their lasting impact will be for journalism in a post-September 11 world. "On September 11 2001, at around eight o'clock in the morning eastern daylight time, four passenger planes took off from various East Coast cities in the United States bound for destinations on the West Coast" (Crockatt.1). The Northern mass media have the tendency to declare manifestations of Muslim belief such as wearing the hijab and performing the communal Muslim prayer as certain signs of "Islamic fundamentalism, " whereas the wearing of Christian religious apparel or attending church in their own countries are not usually considered signs of fanaticism. The generalization and polarization of all Muslims as "fundamentalists" and "moderates, " "traditionalists" and "modernists, " "fanatics" and "secularists" serve to distort communication. They tend to make the Muslims who are interested in constructive dialogue with non-Muslims apologetic about their beliefs or, contrarily, disdainful about any interaction (Chomsky 76). Investigations of trauma typically connect its emergence to large-scale cataclysmic events that shatter a prior sense of what it means, in moral terms, to remain part of a collective All routines-the stability of life-stopped. Sirens were there instead. The sheer genius of the terrorist strike as strike, its

Nightingale came up with the concept â€Å"the body’s reparative process.† In this concept, she emphasized that the recovery of a patient greatly depends on the hygiene conditions of his or her environment. In 1952, Hildegard Peplau came put forward the interpersonal relation theory of nursing. It is also referred to as psychodynamic nursing (Elizabeth & Jerome, 2011). The theory defines outcomes of nursing in a humanistic aspect.

GM WEEKLY - Case Study Example The main company’s value brand is the Hotpoint and general electric served as the quality line brand. In early 1970’s, MABG management viewed the dishwasher business as an issue despite its market share being over 20+% and its strong financial performance. Most of the GE’s washers manufactured are different from other competitive models, and the dishwashers got criticized as they are heavy water users that translated into excess energy use. Following the quality issues, Jack Welch challenged MABG by proposing a simple fix on the dishwasher business in to make it efficient in operational standards. As a result, thirteen members were put together to architect and implement a key step change (Project C) in the process, product and the workforce factors of the GE’s dishwasher business. The changes included manufacturing changes and workforce changes as Nag Hambrick and Chen (2007) proposed. In the case of manufacturing changes, Moeller, and his team proposed to totally redo the key Louisville dishwasher sections to fully complement and adopt a cellular approach on major production stages. The changes were to get integrated along with PermaTuf and door redesign. Additionally, the team proposed to pursue automation aggressively to reduce cost and improve quality along with product design modification according to constraints and capabilities of the new process. There was also the integration of product testing within manufacturing to an entirely separate quality control organization. The proposed principle to focus on Louisville dishwasher plant on the General Electric-Perma Tuf C product line is an appropriate way to achieve world-class leadership. It is because the concentration on the process productivity, quality and work life quality will enhance production quality. The principle also aims at reducing the number of product parts in the plant from 4,000 to 800. Workforce changes were also significant to part of the Project C. The

Pricing Strategy of Coca-Cola Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

Pricing Strategy of Coca-Cola - Research Paper Example In this pricing strategy, prices are kept low in order to penetrate more into the target market (Armstrong, Marketing). As a part of this strategy, prices of most of the products that are currently in the market will be lowered by 1-2 units. Furthermore, the quantity of the content can also be increased keeping the price range unchanged. In case of the brands that are about to be introduced, prices will be maintained at the lowest possible range so that competitive advantage can be gained. Prices of those brands that have sufficient market share in most of the major markets can be brought down by 5-10%. However, the price of the sports drinks brand which has been struggling to gain enough popularity would not be made lowered more than 2-3%. Penetration pricing strategy is likely to be more effective in the developing countries like India where people are significantly concerned about the prices of the product. In developed countries, direct cut in price may not work and hence in thes e markets, more features can be added in terms of content and packaging without changing the price. In some cases, prices can be reduced slightly. The main reason behind choosing penetration pricing strategy is increasing the sales by penetrating deeper into the markets. In most of developing countries, the volume of the target market is increasing significantly. Almost everyday a new market is getting created. In order to, gain enough market share in these markets it is very important to keep the price at a lower level for the initial period. The sports drinks sector in the emerging markets is becoming bigger. However, it is dominated by the competitor’s brand. As a result, bringing down the price without the changing the quality is likely to be an appropriate strategy for Coca-Cola. The situation is quite different in the developed markets where consumers have become more health conscious.

SLP Evolution of the Problem Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

SLP Evolution of the Problem - Essay Example However this cannot happen because the patients require medicines to take care of their ailments and illnesses, and they will keep going to the medics to make sure they remain healed. As far as the stakeholders of Medicare are concerned, the rising costs mean that they need to have more inventories within their ranks, which would mean that the expiry dates of the medicines would be close and hence some of these medicines would be redundant with the passage of time. The implications of this problem are immense as these could lead to shortage of customers within the markets and hence the stakeholders might feel that they have been hard done by. The Medicare stakeholders have a responsibility with regards to their business, and one must understand the same because the prescription drugs are indeed very quintessential. If the Medicare stakeholders find out alternatives, it is for their own good in the long run (Dukes 2001). When it comes to patients, one can realize the gravity of the scenario since they are the ones who would have to purchase inferior medicines at the expense of the ones that are prescribed by the doctors and medics. This is in direct contrast of the philosophy of giving the best possible treatment to the patients and as laid down in the Medicare regimes. The politics of international pricing have hurt the cause of these prescription drugs and the stakeholders are bearing the brunt for the same. There needs to be found a way which can tackle such regimes once and for all within the domains of the patients as well as the stakeholders (Harrison 2004). The major players within the field of medicines and health regimes are bringing in changes which have made the prices of these medicines and especially the prescription drugs out of control. These cost issues should be handled in such a way that attention is paid on the provision of the prescription drugs to the patients and the

Golden Age of Capitalism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Golden Age of Capitalism - Essay Example This was a time when commerce was being revolutionized with the emergence of new technologies in transport and communication which facilitated the international markets. Railroads and steamships were used for land transportation of goods. This gave birth to the international market with goods being transported between countries such as America and England. The development of international commerce in manufactures on such a scale was only possible because of an increase in international flows of capital and the international provision of financial services (Milward 22). This was evident in post world war II economy of Europe. By 1950 more a great percentage of the income of foreign nations such Denmark was from foreign trade with other nations. The exchange rate between national currencies was stable despite the intensity among warring nations that was building up. As a result nations were able to prosper and grow economically and promote interdependence. The standard of living for ma ny citizens was at the time much better and continued to improve with the increase in the national income per capita as a result of economic success. Over the period 1950-70, the rate of growth of output in the construction sector was between 4 and 7 per cent a year over Western Europe as whole, and thus somewhat higher than the rate of growth of total output (Milward 52). This added to the success and economic dependence of nations after World War II. Thus different sectors of different nations that specialized in a trade to facilitate growth, rose considerably. The trade deficit with the dollar zone increased threefold between 1951 and 1957 (Milward 182). This increased output and western Europe had a surplus that was unprecedented. Help extended to the citizens of a nation post war was crucial in establishing the state as a means for the people to better themselves. The sweeping reform of the German pensions systems in 1955-7 , a bid by the Christian Democratic Union for a long-term middle class electoral support, had little in common, for example with the extension of public welfare in Sweden or Norway except an adherence to the view that the stability of the state required a positive response to the demand for welfare (Milward 47). This was important in conveying to the public that in accordance with the welfare policies in place, they too were to contribute to the growth of the economy in the countries mentioned. In my persp ective, this was a time of great trials and tribulations, those getting richer were foreign investors, bankers and merchants. Governments dealt a hand, and immersed their economies in the growing world market. This period thus gave rise to a flurry of new job opportunities in transportation and communication. The post-war reconstruction of nations aided by technological advancements was meant to rebuild the economy, promote industrialization and modernization. As a result of the success achieved in this endeavor, it was necessary for the governments to maintain it for purposes of achieving economic dependence. Political stability of this age put participating countries in the forefront of international trade, investments, travel and migration which increased more than any other period. It is incredible how nations were able to experience a period that was high in economic growth as a result of transportation and communication advancements. This period was unique and cannot at this time be
